Productivity reconsidered: critical assessment of investments
Article Abstract:
The personnel and value efficiencies in the automotive, communications, pulp and paper industries of Canada, Finland, Japan, South Korea, UK and the US have been studied. Results indicate a link between logistical speed and value efficiency while a weaker association was noted between lower production investment efficiency and high personnel efficiency in the automative and communications sectors. However, there was no correlation between production investment and personnel efficiency in the pulp and paper industry. This finding indicates that high value efficiency is intimately related with logistical speed.

Planning of multi-site production - an object-oriented model
Article Abstract:
The representation of multi-site production environments within planning systems was presented by means of a model. The model of workplans for manufacturing, stocking and transport was the centerpiece of the research. Object-oriented methodologies were used for the design. A vital feature of the model was its ability to incorporate generic constructs of the workplan for representation of orders based on the workplans. Other key features of the model are its easy maintenance and its wide range of applications.

A study on "science SQC" by utilizing "management SQC" - a demonstrative study on a new SQC concept and procedure in the manufacturing industry
Article Abstract:
Management SQC (statistical quality control) is a novel SQC concept that can be applied in the manufacturing industry, with the aim of improving the work quality of managers and engineers at every stage of the production business and process. The experience of Toyota Motor Corp provides strong evidence that management SQC as part of science SQC is an effective approach for automobile manufacturing as reflected in factor optimization and process improvement.
