Recycled ideas: last week's Housing White Paper confirmed the 'greening' of the Government's housing policy, but is it enough?
Article Abstract:
The Housing White Paper includes a further extension of home ownership and the sell-off of housing association-run estates. This reinforces the existing planning policy guidance that favours brownfield urban sites rather than greenfield development. Half of all development should be on re-used land over the next 10 years, but space will still be required for up to 850,000 extra houses in the countryside.

Battle of the bases
Article Abstract:
The British government is planning to sell off roughly 35 major military sites in the United Kingdom. The Arms Conversion Project and CPRE, pressure groups, have criticised the government for accepting the largest bids, despite the impact the sale might have on the countryside and local community. The role of the planner is very hard in this case.
