Reverse venturi power silent universal pump
Article Abstract:
Engineering inventor Nigel Buchanan has developed a quiet yet efficient vacuum pump which works by pushing the extraction nozzle into the fluid being drawn up by the pump. The pressure of the nozzle head being forced into the fluid creates greater force and pressure depression. The new pump could transform industries reliant on fluid extraction, such as the oil industry, car manufacture and even the production of whiskey.

Surface options increase
Article Abstract:
New developments in surface treatments are challenging established processes. British Steel in conjunction with Konrad Hornschuch, AG, Germany, have developed a flexible reflective polymer laminated coating. A Russian Chemical Vapour Deposition technology with commercial application is under investigation in the United Kingdom. Electron beam evaporation has speeded up the process of Physical Vapour Deposition. A development in electrolytic processes, electropolishing has facilitated the production of ultra-smooth surfaces.

The technology drive forges ahead
Article Abstract:
Technological developments have improved the performance of diamond, steel and composite materials. Greater thermal conductivity of diamond has application in electronic circuitry. A European research project, Materiaux Optimises pour une Srructure Automobile Innovant la Conception (MOSAIC) is investigating the use of steel in car design to reduce weight and costs. New developments have improved flexibilty, strength and corrosion resistance. Developments in ceramic reinforced and polymer composites have produced high-temperature and wear resistant materials.
