Rocky road ahead for big three suppliers
Article Abstract:
Automobile parts suppliers foresee several difficulties in acquiring QS 9000 certification. According to a training and consulting firm, QS 9000 is similar to ISO 9000 certification but with about 76% additional requirements. Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Corp. and General Motors Corp. all require QS 9000 certification from their direct, one-tier suppliers. However, some suppliers still do not have adequate knowledge on the specific requirements under QS 9000, the deadline in meeting such requirements and the entire accredition process.

QS 9000 revisions fall short of expectations
Article Abstract:
The Big Three automobile makers' revision of their Quality Systems Requirements, otherwise known as QS 9000, have failed to address their suppliers' confusion about the interpretation of several guidelines. According to Bill Kracht, quality and regulatory compliance manager of Dow Chemical Co., the Feb. 1995 revisions aggravated the problems inherent in the original version. He pointed to the section concerning safety and environmental regulations as one example of ambiguous wording.
