Article Abstract:
Renovations and upgrades at various medical facilities in the US, incorporating the collaborative efforts of engineers and architects, primarily encompass improvements and modifications to mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) distribution systems. These retrofitting initiatives, driven by various factors and requirements such as increased profitability and better space utilization, comprise the primary areas of piping for domestic water, sanitary and medical gases; electrical feeders; and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning ductwork. As MEP enhancements are anticipated to be inevitably required throughout any hospital, there are forecasts for the increased modularity of MEP systems and services.

Article Abstract:
Various medical facilities are confounded by difficulties regarding poor power quality, which is being attributed primarily to the demand for higher-quality power from microprocessor-based equipment, as well as non code-compliant wiring. These deviations from a normal 60- or 50-hertz voltage waveform, which mainly affect such hospital equipment as information systems, x-ray, lab and the hospital's physical plant, are requiring expensive correction initiative that predominantly begin with a comprehensive power-quality audit. Such a verification effort must start with a review of the main service transformer voltage and current, and is suggested to be performed at both weekdays and weekends.
Comment:
