Something old, something new
Article Abstract:
Hewlett-Packard (HP) chairman Lewis E. Platt believes the company's Quality 1 on 1 campaign is a perfect foil to the traditional HP Way of doing things and will enable the electronic products manufacturer to maintain leadership in the testing equipment market. Quality 1 on 1 campaign complements the HP Way by taking quality to a personal level through adoption of a producer/consumer's outlook of quality. The HP Way of doing things emphasizes continuous innovation, listening carefully to customers, trusting employees and encouraging them to take up community work, and sharing profits.

The state of the states
Article Abstract:
A recent survey of all 50 state governments revealed that 41 states are now using some type of quality control process to improve government management and service functions. Thirty-five of these 41 states have instituted quality award programs which have found to be beneficial to all parties involved. State quality improvement activities vary but often take the form of a single statewide program, are implemented on an individual agency basis or are created by legislative mandate. Most states work with private sector organizations to help in quality programs.
