TQM and human nature: getting beyond organizational misconceptions
Article Abstract:
Total quality management (TQM) in an organization can be achieved by overcoming misconceptions regarding the two basic assumptions: that individuals are the basic unit of an organization and management's focus on perfecting individual talents and skills. TQM provides a novel management pattern to overcome the imperfections of human resource systems by aligning human nature, support systems, integrating teamwork, and substituting managers with leaders. Human resource systems analyze various talents and fail to manage human imperfections.

How a team can grow
Article Abstract:
Self-directed work teams (SDWTs) present both challenges and opportunities. In order for an SDWT to exist, all those involved must support the concept and use it as the basis for making decisions. SDWTs cannot function effectively unless there is good communication, and all members must be prepared to genuinely work together, rather than promoting their own interests. It must recognized that team development is a gradual process with stages leading to enhanced independence and accountability.
