Technology transfer
Article Abstract:
Cannon, an architectural and engineering firm based in Grand Island, NY, received the Consulting-Specifying Engineer's 1998 Integrator Award in the Institutional Building category for its work in designing the Center for Environmental Sciences and Technology Management (CESTM) at the State University of New York. The innovative design reflects CESTM's mission of serving as a testbed for technology transfer. Highlights of the design are the highly flexible, modular mechanical and electrical systems.

Integrating economics
Article Abstract:
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration's proposed ergonomics standard was poorly received by mass media and domestic manufacturers despite its potential to improve worker productivity significantly. The main contention against the regulation is the high cost of its implementation. Meanwhile, engineers believe that the proposed ergonomics standard will have no significant effects on their practice for they have always prioritize the comfort and health of workers in their designs.
