The procedure of determining the order picking strategies in distribution center
Article Abstract:
A computer-based procedure for determining the most appropriate order picking strategies in a distribution center is proposed. It operates in two phases, namely, an analytic method for classifying all orders into five types and computer simulation for selecting the appropriate picking strategies for each category of the orders classified. The implementation of the procedure is demonstrated using a picking system with 24 product storage locations, one-order reception station, five shipment areas and five pickers.

Determination of nested reorder intervals in a distribution network
Article Abstract:
The problem of determining reorder intervals in a coordinated distribution network is solved using an algorithm designed for the purpose. Unlike other studies which focus on product nested solutions, the practical solution presented focuses on nested policies where a facility orders an item when its supplier orders the same item. With a running time of r log r, the algorithm that is defined can be conveniently utilized for a multi-warehouse, multi-outlet and multi-item system.

Positioning of automated guided vehicles in a loop layout to minimize the mean vehicle response time
Article Abstract:
The dynamic and static positioning strategies for determining the best parking position of idle automated guided vehicles (AGV) in an AGV system were evaluated. An algorithm, capable of controlling motion in unidirectional and bidirectional guidepaths, was also developed for each positioning strategy. The algorithms were found to be very useful for allocating a single-parking space for each AGV in the system.
