Three strategies for sound risk management
Article Abstract:
Engineers who accept a particular project should be prepared to encounter inherent risks. They must learn to quickly identify those risks, evaluate their impacts and manage their effects. There are typically three ways of managing inherent risks. These include avoiding the risk altogether by either decling the job or limiting the contracting party's exposure. The other two risk-management techniques include transfering the risk to another group or entity and retaining/mitigating the risk.

Working drawings: leading by example
Article Abstract:
Accurately constructed drawings are necessary to prevent communications problems in engineering projects. It is necessary to realize the risks presented by poor drawings and to know the solutions needed to prevent them. Poor working drawings are defined as those which exhibit incomplete details, missing drawings, component-sizing errors and nonstandard symbols. The costs and schedule impacts of drawing errors can be minimized by identifying them early in a project's schedule.

Five legal consequences of sloppy drawings
Article Abstract:
Seasoned engineers know the problems and legal consequences resulting from poor working drawings. Bad drawings are, for engineers, costly in terms of time and money. The five most prevalent legal issues associated with faulty drawings are permit problems, coordination problems, additional requests for information, substandard construction and construction claims. Engineers are advised to study carefully drawing problems in order to lessen liability risks.
