U.S. Research; Fostering the Next Generation of Computing
Article Abstract:
A poll of universities and companies involved in research cooperatives for the development of next-generation computer systems is illustrated in a five-page table. The table lists colleges, universities, and companies, what their research is in, and who is funding that research. Research areas include production, VLSI, computer architecture, and artificial intelligence.

Telecommunications: Clarke's Legacy
Article Abstract:
Syncom Two, the world's first synchronous orbiting satellite, was launched on July 26, 1963. The satellite demonstrated the feasibility of orbiting communications, joined NASA and private aerospace companies, and became the prototype for Intelsat, the largest satellite system in the world. The Advanced Communications Technology Satellite (ACTS) program is discussed.
