U.S. firms joining Japanese national consortia for aerospace, energy and materials research
Article Abstract:
Several US companies are participating in a consortium of more than 40 Japanese firms that will undertake new science and technology research projects. The national consortium is in line with the Japanese government's policy of technoglobalism, or opening up government industrial research projects to foreign participation. Technoglobalism was conceived by Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry as a foil to what it perceives as technonationalism in the US, referring to efforts to protect its own technologyfrom other countries' exploitation.

Japan firms reorganizing R&D at home and abroad
Article Abstract:
Japanese corporations are reorganizing their industrial research programs to improve product marketing time and to expand international operations. Around two-thirds of 35 major firms surveyed in Jun. 1995 said that their restructuring programs aimed to cope with market developments. The high yen and Japan's extended recession has likewise moved 13 firms to establish R&D facilities in the US and Europe.
