ISO 14000 implementation and certification, a comprehensive, holistics management of the environment, is being viewed with different merits by US companies. While NY-based Philips Electronics North America Corp. is seeking ISO certification for its 250 plants in 60 countries by 2000, Livingston, NJ-firm Formosa Plastics Corp. views ISO 14001 certification as a sound business move with a public-relations potential. However, Schaumburg, IL-firm Motorola Corp. is relying on its internally developed environmental-management system to meet environmental challenges.
