An application of economic choice experiments to a traditional land use - deer hunting and landscape change in the Scottish Highlands
Article Abstract:
A postal survey was conducted on British and other European stalkers to assess the value they place on the attributes of their deer hunting activity in the Scottish Highlands. The respondents were asked to evaluate their stalking experience in terms of price, numbers, quality, activities and landscape. These attributes were measured by using a multi-attribute choice experiment method. The results of the survey are discussed.

Evaluation of aerial line transect methodology for estimating red deer (Cervus elaphus) abundance in Scotland
Article Abstract:
Aerial line transect methods were used to study red deer (Cervus Elaphus) population size in Scotland. The costs of aerial line transect abundance estimation were compared with census methods using two red deer commission counting blocks, West Sutherland, and North Ross. West Sutherland and North Ross methods showed that line transect methodology is of great potential in large areas with small scattered animal groups.

Temporal measurement of the loss of native pinewood in Scotland through the analysis of orthorectified aerial photographs
Article Abstract:
The analysis of orthorectified aerial photographs allows temporal measurement of change in tree cover. This technique was used for two native pinewoods in Glenfeshie, Scotland. The need for a change in management practices was identified.
