Application of an integrated management approach to the restoration project of the lagoon of Venice
Article Abstract:
The Consorzio Venezia Nuova has adopted an integrated approach to deal with the environmental and socio-economic issues that affect the ecological and morphological features of the lagoon of Venice. Geographic Information System techniques and mathematical models are used to assess the effectiveness of the restoration methods. The restoration involves long term steps to decrease the input of pollution into the drainage basin, middle term steps to change the circulation of water and the lagoon morphology, and immediate steps such as harvesting macro algae.

A multicriteria approach for mapping risks of agricultural pollution for water resources: The Venice Lagoon watershed case study
Article Abstract:
A multicritera analysis system was developed to produce risk maps of agricultural pollution due to alternative cultivation systems in the Watershed of the Lagoon of Venice (WLV) in Italy. Two alternative cultivation systems were defined, ordinary and eco-compatible and were evaluated in terms of pollution risks for water resources. The results showed the potential of eco-compatible methods for reducing risks for surface and groundwater.
