Implementation of a multicriteria sewage sludge management model in the southern Quebec municipality of Lac-Megantic, Canada
Article Abstract:
Solutions to resolve a sewage sludge management problem in the rural municipality of Lac-Megantic were evaluated. Composting, landfilling, land application, and incineration were selected based on wide acceptance and applicability as solutions to the problem. These solutions were evaluated based on criteria of economics, risk perception of the population, technological features, environmental impacts and human health impacts. Composting and land application were found to be the most wanted solutions of the municipality, although no clear preference between the two was shown.

A phosphorous budget for a Swedish municipality
Article Abstract:
A study of the cyclic flow of phosphorous from the ecosystem to a Swedish municipality community highlights the need for adopting corrective measures to increase the return of nutrients into forests and agricultural systems. Analyses of the flow of phosphorous through major subsystems of agriculture, fishing, paper and pulp industry, dairy and poultry industry and sewage treatment, using a systems model has important implications. These include recycling of sewage and fibre sludge, which are rich sources of phosphorous.

Modelling air temperature gradients across managed small streams in western Washington
Article Abstract:
Stream ecosystem research shows that clearcutting causes the air temperature on buffered streams in western Washington, DC, to rise by four degrees centigrade. Riparian strips measuring less than 73 meters appear to provide inadequate protection for sustained stream temperatures. Microclimate data from twenty sample streams, including seasonal temperature variations, is illustrated.
