Community values for environmental protection in a cane farming catchment in Northern Australia: a choice modelling study
Article Abstract:
A methodology for environmental planning is evaluated, using a land-use management issue in Queensland, Australia. The method compares public preferences for sugar cane farming versus natural vegetation protection in the Herbert River District via a discrete-choice approach. Results show that valuation of open, natural space is comparable to commercial returns from agricultural production, suggesting that non-use values have an important role in environmental planning.

A decision support process to compare riparian revegetation options in Scheu Creek catchment in North Queensland
Article Abstract:
Goals of various stakeholders are compared via a decision support system to examine costs and benefits of revegetation processes in Scheu Creek, Queensland, Australia. Wide disparities were found between stakeholder views, indicating that incentives will be needed to balance resource protection with land-use loss, particularly for farmers.

The environmental impact of water markets: an Australian case-study
Article Abstract:
An examination is presented on potential water resource management strategies in Queensland, Australia's Border Rivers region. It is posited that establishing water entitlement trading will result in a disparity between historical flow regimes and extractive demand and would therefore be counterproductive to restoring natural flow levels.
