Consequences of forest fragmentation for polyporous fungi at two spatial scales
Article Abstract:
The species richness, incidence of occurrence in forest fragments, and abundance of polyporus fungal sepcies and species groups between two regions in Finland is compared with contrasting histories of forestry and a marked difference in the amount and spatial configuration of old-growth forests. Results show that the species number, incidence of occurrence, and abundance of the rare, threatened and near-threatened species are much lower in the old-growth fragments in comparison with the new fragments because of the longer history of intensive forestry in the older fragment.

Are the spatial patterns of weeds scale-invariant?
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to show that weeds in modern agriculture systems may be managed close to critical population dynamic thresholds, below which their rates of increase will be negative and where scale-invariance may be expected as a consequence. Three methods based on correlation sum, incidence and conditional incidence are also analyzed.
