Delays in nutrient cycling and plant population oscillations
Article Abstract:
A model is presented to capture the dynamics of delay in the release of nitrogen from decomposing litter, caused by microbial uptake, that could produce oscillations in populations when the delay in nitrogen release is longer than the characteristics time scale of nitrogen uptake. The model demonstrates that population oscillations could logically arise from delays in nitrogen cycling caused by microbial uptake into fresh litter to satisfy microbial demands.

Impact of moose population density on the production and composition of litter in boreal forests
Article Abstract:
The impact of moose on quantity and quality of litter in the boreal forest ecosystem in Sweden where moose browse on both Scots pine and deciduous species is examined. The results suggest that the outcome of moose browsing in Swedish boreal forests might be a decrease in soil nutrient availability and nutrient cycling of higher moose densities, because the litter quantity decreases.

Global warming and the export of dissolved organic carbon from boreal peatlands
Article Abstract:
Peatlands are dynamic ecosystems in which the accumulation of peat is determined by and in turn controls the flow patterns of water. The amount of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) exported from peatlands may depend on the interaction between flow of water through the peatland and the production and consumption of DOC within the peatland.
