Developing sustainability indicators for mountain ecosystems: a study of the Cairngorms, Scotland
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the development of sustainability indicators for the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. It was shown that despite the adaptation of several feasible frameworks, the sustainability indicators developed for the Cairngorms were inadequate because they are mostly not linked to capacity standards. To improve indicators for sustainability assessment at the local level, a careful consideration of economic-environmental processes and incorporation of performance inidcators are necessary.

Regional and environmental aspects in the implementation of Spanish agri-environmental schemes
Article Abstract:
The operation of the European Union agri-environmental programs in Spain was investigated and compared within the European environment. The analysis focused on how different regional and national government institutions interpreted EC 2078/92. The enforcement of agri-environmental strategies for terrestrial and wetland areas was found to be the most extensively managed objective. Despite the delay in implementation, the operation of the Spanish agri-environmental plan was found to be satisfactory.

Developing and applying an index of environmental integrity for the US Mid-Atlantic region
Article Abstract:
A four-step eindex of environmental integrityE approach is given so that the environmental information can be made available in such forms that the various environmental agencies can easily understand and use. The three main points that differentiates index of environmental integrity from index of biotic integrity, which is for aquatic systems, are described.
