Effect of mine discharge on the pattern of riverine habitat use of elephants Elephas maximus and other mammals in Singhbhum forests, Bihar, India
Article Abstract:
Turbidity and total suspended solids are the two main parameters for monitoring water-quality impacted through iron ore mine discharge, according to research designed to identify the different physico-chemical variables of the water of India's Koina River and to assess the factors affecting the riverine range utilization by elephants and other mammals. Increased occurrent of elephants in the area in 1996 coincided with lower rainfall. It seems that the unregulated mine discharge can have a negative impact on the river system, reducing its habitat values for wildlife.

Economic management of recreational scuba diving and the environment
Article Abstract:
Popularity of recreational scuba diving has impelled environmental damage due to overcrowding and calls for economic and environmental management of the marine protected areas (MPA). While the dive industry has grown with the availability of cheap and reliable equipment, the diving sites have fallen short for the increasing number of divers. The divers have caused irreparable environmental damage to these sites. While education can increase the awareness of this damage, strict regulation and economic constraints can solve access and boundary issues.
