Environmental statistics for environmental policy: genealogy and data quality
Article Abstract:
A study to determine the source and effects of errors in collated environmental statistics shows that these errors are a intrinsic part of the collation process due to differences in the collection process, lack of international standards and the large number of agencies involved. Case studies on atmospheric emissions, air quality and waste generation show that the data obtained has many significant errors. Therefore, environmental statistics should not be the only basis of environmental policies as they may give rise to wrong policies.

Statistical considerations in the design and analysis of environmental damage assessment studies
Article Abstract:
Alternative approaches such as meta-analysis and incorporation of model dependent inference and spatial and temporal data in assessing environmental impacts are more versatile compared to conventional experimental models in determining damage and injury caused by chemical or oil spills. Meta-analysis enhances inferential versatility and statistical assessment accuracy of environmental damage.

Market liberalisation and environmental assessment in developing and transitional economies
Article Abstract:
The link between environmental assessment provisions and market liberalisation measures, in both developing countries(LDCs) and countries in transition(CITs), is explored. The scope and impact of market liberalisation measures are analyzed. A comparative analysis of environmental assessment and cost-benefit analysis is conducted and various areas for further research are identified.
