Ethnobotanical skills and clearance of tropical rain forest for agriculture: a case study in the lowlands of Bolivia
Article Abstract:
The contribution of ethnobotanical skills of indigenous people from lowlands of Bolivia in the reduction of the clearance of tropical rain forest is assessed. The results have indicated that the ethnobotanical skills of the male head of household are associated with lower clearance of tropical rain forest for subsistence agriculture, but they apply only to the clearance of rain forest for agriculture and to old-growth forest.

Integration of natural behavior in housing systems
Article Abstract:
The way in which natural behavior of animals kept for production can be integrated when planning new housing systems or making changes to existing housing systems is discussed. It is suggested that if natural behavior is better integrated into housing systems, it would lead to more sustainable housing systems, especially from an animal welfare point of view, giving the farmer or animal keeper more job satisfaction.

Healthy and happy: Animal welfare as an integral part of sustainable agriculture
Article Abstract:
The development of the debate since the 1960s is highlighted, presenting animal welfare as a science that arose from society's concern about the way animals are kept. These moral and ethical concerns lead to it having a value framework that must also be taken into consideration and different definitions of animal welfare are presented and discussed.
