Effects of food stress and density in different life stages on reproduction in a butterfly
Article Abstract:
The insects diets and the energetic needs changes between different life stages, with storing of larva resources, adult feeding and reproduction being linked strategies and the detrimental effects on female reproduction, negative effects of adult food stress were confined to female being led to larvae ad libitum. It shows that restricted food access in different developmental stages may set different limits of reproduction, either posed by shortage of larval-derived storage reserves or adult income.

Grasshoppers cope with low host plant quality by compensatory feeding and food selection: N limitation challenged
Article Abstract:
The effect of low host plant nitrogen content on herbivore performance is explored where the lower growth rate grasshoppers reared on Plant nitrogen (N)-poor grass exhibited prolonged development and smaller adult size. Although the species exploit a relatively very poor autotroph nutrient base in the wild, as underpinned by N analysis of natural host grasses and grasshopper tissue, our data suggest that natural food quality imposes no relevant constraint on the herbivore's performance.

Biodiversity effects of elevated CO(2) in species-rich model communities from the semi-arid Negev of Israel
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide lower nitrogen content in plant leaves and reduce leaf area. Although reproductive output and biomass remained constant for most plant species tested, significant variations were found among the more responsive species. Data were obtained from vegetation in Israel's Negev Desert grasslands.
