Intake rate at differently scaled heterogeneous food distributions explained by the ability of tactile-foraging mallard to concentrate foraging effort within profitable areas
Article Abstract:
The ability to respond to spatial heterogeneity in food abundance depends on the scale of the food distribution and the foraging scale of the forager where the aim is to illustrate that a foraging scale exists and large scaled food distributions foragers benefit from the ability to subdivide a continuous heterogeneous environment into profitable and non profitable areas. Thus partitioning the environment at the foraging scale in itself could be a mechanism to concentrate foraging efforts within profitable areas, as mallard were able to respond to heterogeneity at coarse scaled food distributions even when non-clumped.

Patch use behavior in benthic fish depends on their long-term growth prospects
Article Abstract:
The patch use behavior of benthic feeding fish in their natural environment at different spatial scales is tested to determine patch quality and if patch use behavior was correlated with environmental quality is examined. The foraging scale of benthic fish lied between the patch and micro patch scale in the experiments and the patch use behavior of benthic fish can provide a powerful measure of habitat quality that revealed how benthic fish perceived their environment.

Time and energy constraints: reply to comments by Jeschke et al
Article Abstract:
A reply to comments by Jeschke, Kopp and Tollrian in their paper 'Time and energy constraint' is presented. The reply expresses pleasure at the emphasis of the authors that their classification in handling-limited and digestion-limited predators was not meant to apply to typical field conditions, since it was not immediately evident from their examples.
