Integrated management of radioactive strontium contamination in aqueous stream systems
Article Abstract:
An examination is presented on a combination method for removing strontium from aqueous solutions generated by nuclear reactor plants. The method uses biomass treatment, a minimum-suspension fluidized bed reactor, and a fluidized bed/membrane reactor. The authors suggest the addition of thermophilic bacteria bio-encapsulation and separation to maximize strontium removal and minimize secondary waste production.

Contaminated sites: the Canadian situation in an international context
Article Abstract:
Canada's brownfield remediation policy is compared to those of the United States and Europe. Categories include funding resources, clean-up standards, soil quality data research, and liability issues. Canadian policies are evolving more slowly than those of the US and Europe as perception of environmental problems in Canada is less negative than in other countries.

Rising to the Kyoto challenge: is the response of Canadian industry adequate?
Article Abstract:
Research on industrial carbon dioxide emissions in Canada indicates that voluntary self-regulation programs will be insufficient for helping the nation meet its 6% emission reduction target. A survey of firms shows that most have planned to reduce emissions by 1% to 2% below their emission levels from 1990, which fall short of the nationwide 6% target.
