Laboratory and field screening strategies for measuring volatile organic compounds in landfill gas
Article Abstract:
An investigation of a procedure for boosting the economic efficiency of environmental assessments has concentrated analytical effort on contaminants known to have the greatest probability of occurrence and supply the most information on other contaminants that arise at the same time. It was speculated that screens, selected single compounds or subsets of a larger group of target contaminants, are able to characterize instances of chemical contamination at little cost. It was found that a laboratory screening effort can be more expensive than a detailed analysis if the distribution of target compound detections are spread across a large number of samples.

Degradation of organochlorine pesticides in soils under controlled environment and outdoor conditions
Article Abstract:
The result of the study of degradation rates of organochlorine pesticides in clay soil shows the degradation rates are higher and half-lives of pesticides are shorter for soil at 30 degree centrigrade temperature as compared to the soil kept under variable conditions of temperature and environment. The toxic effects of the pesticides reduce the rates of degradation by affecting the microorganisms already present in the soil.

Maximum permissible and negligible concentrations for some organic substances and pesticides
Article Abstract:
The methods used for genetic hazard assessment in the Netherlands are presented. Maximum permissible concentrations and negligible concentrations have been established for soil, water and sediment for around 150 organic substances.
