Temperature-associated upper limits to body size in terrestrial poikilotherms
Article Abstract:
The largest tropical species poikilotherms from 25 taxa exceed in linear body size, the largest representations of the same taxa from the temperature and polar zones. A theoretical approach is developed which quantitatively explains the observed body size patterns and relates them to ambient temperature under the assumption that there exists a temperature-independent critical minimum value of mass-specific metabolic rate b(sub min), a fall which is incompatible with biological performance.

A comparative study of body size and clutch size across the parasitoid Hymenoptera
Article Abstract:
A large comparative data set and the phylogenetic information are used to explore hypotheses that might explain the variation in body size and clutch size across species in parasitoids. The results support the theoretical models of trait evolution in parasitoids, even as the association between latitude and life history might help explain the reason why species richness in the family Ichneumonidae peaks at intermediate latitudes.
