The benefits of improvements in costal water quality: a contingent approach
Article Abstract:
Evaluation of the non-market value accorded by residents to improved water quality in Brest Harbour, France, reveals that willingness to pay (WTP) rises with revenue and education. Direct, on-site interviews are conducted on two priority problems namely microbe contamination and over-enrichment by nutrients. WTP is calculated in relation to good salubrity and good eco-system, using logit and tobit models. Subjects accept paying substantial amounts for better water quality in the bay. Proportion of WTPs are more for salubrity than for the eco-system.

Measurement issues with iterated, continuous/interval contingent valuation data
Article Abstract:
The use of iterated, interval willingness-to-pay questions must be considered should be used with the contingent valuation method when considering telephone applications. Two important measurement issues are related to the contingent evaluation method, namely, choice of estimation technique and the starting point bias. Starting-point bias is tested and a correction procedure for the method is proposed. The systematic estimation of willingness-to-pay data is done by design a contingent market feature.

Making environmental impact assessment convincible to developing countries
Article Abstract:
An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) that provides a method of evaluation acceptable to developing countries is discussed. The method makes the process of environmental impact studies simple and apolitical. It can be undertaken by an individual or an agency without political interference and provide accurate information on the merits and demerits of a project. The results can convince developing countries about the usefulness of EIA and enable them to minimize the negative impact of new projects.
