The effects of electromagnetic fields from transmission lines on public fears and property values
Article Abstract:
Property values are likely to decline following fears about the potential health risks of exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) from electrical transmission and distribution lines. Proximity to EMF sources has caused fear of potential health risks, such as cancer and impelled stigma which is expected to contribute to reduced property value. Evidence suggests a decline of about 5%-10% in values of property close to transmission lines. However, other situational factors need to be considered to gorge the magnitude of reduction in property values due to proximity to power-frequency lines.

Oil prices likely to defy OPEC fix: Terrorism fears, not shortages, are driving markets
Article Abstract:
The proposed increase in oil production will not help in bringing the oil prices down as terrorist activities might disrupt the supply. Moreover increase in production is not a easy task as refineries are already running at capacity level. The higher production of Saudis does not indicate fading away of terrorism where as UAE's production is just sufficient for them. It is anticipated that oil prices will stay high at the moment however it is likely to drop at the year end.

Natural materials for treatment of industrial effluents: comparative study of the retention of Cd, Zn, and Co by calcite and hydroxyapatite: part I: batch experiments
Article Abstract:
The heavy metal retention capacity of materials developed from minerals that are abundant in nature, with low cost and minimum environmental impact is explored. The results show that affinities of the studied heavy metals for CA and HAP surfaces follow the sequence, Cd is greater than Zn is greater than Co and Cd is greater than Zn is approximately equal to Co respectively.
