The pollution and protection of the inner Oslofjord: redefining the goals of wastewater treatment policy in the 20th century
Article Abstract:
A history is presented on water quality management in the Oslofjord region of the Baltic Sea near Oslo, Norway. Oslo's population growth significantly raised pollution by the 1930s, but nutrients were not acknowledged as a problem until the 1960s. A combination of nitrogen and phosphorus removal has resulted in slow but measurable recovery of the fjord.
