Trace substances in snow and firn from the vicinity of two small research stations in Antarctica
Article Abstract:
Snow samples taken from two Antarctic research stations revealed higher concentrations of ions and light-absorbing materials. Possible explanations include both human and natural influences. Researchers contributed through the burning of fossil fuels and the production of waste. Natural processes contributed through the breakdown and dispersal of mineral and salt incrustations, enhanced by storms and helicopter movements.

Handling intensity and the short- and long-term survival of elephant seals: Addressing and quantifying research effects on wild animals
Article Abstract:
The consequences of repeated human handling on the survival of the southern elephant seal pups were studied by handling them for first six weeks of their lives. The results suggested that there were no measurable effects on the pups that were repeatedly handled and subjected to invasive research methods with respect to survivorship neither in the short term nor in long term.

Origins and biological accumulation of small plastic particles in fur seals from Macquarie Island
Article Abstract:
Fur seals from Macquarie Island were found with 164 plastic particles, which could not be identified as plastic pellet feedstock from their shapes. It is felt that the plastic particles were washed out to seaand then selected and consumed by the different fishes who in turn were consumed by the fur seals, thus being accumulated in the process of feeding.
