Transitions in land use and the problems of planning: a case study from the mountainlands of New Zealand
Article Abstract:
The mountainous part of New Zealand is in transition and facing problems in planning. The problems of planning and land management can be solved by the development of integrated scenarios. Traditional land usage like sheep farming is not economically and environmentally feasible. Regional government and local farmer groups may use numerical procedures for scenario development and to make the future of land use in the broader scale. One such procedure, the LUPIS support tool, is discussed here.
