Valuing the temperate rainforest: wild mushrooming on the Olympic Peninsula Biosphere Reserve
Article Abstract:
The profiling of mushroom harvesters in Washington state's Olympic Peninsula reveals important socioeconomic factors. Categories included ethnicity, gender, class, harvest methods and organization, strategies and division of labor. While conflicts between commercial and recreational harvesters are primarily based on social class and ethnicity, commonalities such as norms and values may provide the foundation for improved relations, enhancing economic gain.

Relative value of chanterelles and timber as commercial forest products
Article Abstract:
Mushrooms and timber are both equally valuable to economic development of Washington state's Olympic Peninsula. Estimates for present net worth in perpetuity were established for both commercial forest products. While timber was found to be one to two times more valuable initially than mushrooms, mushrooms can provide additional income while harvested timber regrows.
