Silicone rubber
Article Abstract:
Silicone rubber can be used for a variety of applications because of its adaptability. It is derived from the replacement of carbon-carbon linkages of organic rubber with the more thermodynamically stable silicon-oxygen. Silicon rubbers have excellent dielectric properties and are resistant to high voltage corona discharge. Elastomeric seals with conductive fillers are useful for shielding against electromagnetic interference such as those required for aircraft electronic devices. Silicone rubbers are also nontoxic making them ideal for medical applications.
