Jean Michel Deiss and his wife Clarisse create wine biodynamically, which is a heightened form of organic farming. Deiss is concerned with the effect that soil quality has on the character of wine. The Deiss family comes from a long tradition of vintners and currently operates on 50 acres.

Ambassadors of Alsace
Article Abstract:
The Hugel Winery in Riquewhir, France has owned its current winery since 1902 and now exports wine to many countries. Wines are organized according to the time of the season that the grape is harvested. Hugel has a 64 acre vineyard and purchases additional grapes.

Mixed results in Alsace

An overview is presented of wines from the Alsace region of France from the 1990's, particularly focussing in the years 1998 and 1999. While the wines from 1998 were classed as an outstanding vintage, those from the following year were inconsistent.
