Article Abstract:
The 1996 vintages of Californian Cabernet wine are presented and reviewed. The wines of 1996 are full of flavour and fine for drinking in 1999 but there are concerns over aging and the shortfall in production of almost 30 percent which should increase prices.

Bryant's next test

The Bryant Family Vineyard in Napa Valley, CA, has produced a series of excellent wines from 1991 to 1999. The potential for these exceptional young wines to age well is also high, although still unknown in 2000.

A guide to buying wine is presented with emphasis on cabernet and merlot wines from California. A selection of wines which will age well, but are reasonably priced at under $50, is presented.
