The Wine Alliance purchased the Napa Valley William Hill Winery in 1992, along with the rights to retain the name. Founder William Hill is no longer making wine there under the new management, but he will continue to make his fine wines under a new label.

The United Kingdom's Allied-Lyons PLC has purchased more than $110 million worth of wine concerns in California in the past decade. The Wine Alliance, its wine marketing unit, now has four California wineries and 1,800 acres of prime vineyards.

William Hill to start over after winery sale
Article Abstract:
The William Hill Winery of Napa Valley, CA, was sold by Hill to The Wine Alliance for $38.5 million. Hill will continue to make Cabernet Sauvignon under a new label and will probably stay on at the winery as a consultant.
