Release of stored retinol from adipocytes
Article Abstract:
Adipose tissue is a storage site for retinol. However the major storage site is still the liver. Retinol is stored in adipose tissue in part as retinyl esters. Research with cultured mouse adipocytes demonstrated that retinyl esters are hydrolyzed by a hormone-sensitive lipase after exposure to cAMP, resulting in release of free retinol.
