A number of American institutions have been established in France since the early 1800s. These institutions include The American Church in Paris, The American Chamber of Commerce and the American Hospital of Paris. American restaurants, such as Haynes, have also been established.

The four glass and concrete towers designed by architect Dominique Perrault to house the Biblioteque Nationale de France are a controversial subject among Parisians. The new library will have a general-access section open to the public and a research section.
