Correlations of vitamin A and E intakes with the plasma concentrations of carotenoids and tocopherols among American men and women
Article Abstract:
A prospective evaluation was made on the correlation of dietary factors on blood levels of caroteinoids and tocopherols. 121 adult men and 186 women were assessed using questionaires regarding diet, physical data, age and smoking habits. Blood analysis were evaluated for levels of retinoids, carotenoids, tocopherols and lipids. Results showed that dietary intake of carotene in nonsmokers correlated with plasma levels of carotenoids and lutein, however, had no effect in zeaxanthin levels. Vitamin E intake on the other hand, produced direct effects on alpha tocopherol although gamma tocopherol was unaltered.

Dynamic and static phases of severe dietary obesity in sheep: food intakes, endocrinology and carcass and organ chemical composition
Article Abstract:
Food intake, hormonal profile and body composition of sheep during the induction and static phases of dietary obesity was investigated. Obese sheep exhibited hyperinsulinemia and energy metabolism disorder during the induction phase, and hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, hyperglucagonemia and elevated serum free fatty acid levels in the static phase of dietary obesity. Analysis of body composition showed decreasing protein to fat ratio in the obese sheep. It was concluded that hyperinsulinemia and metabolic disorders precedes the onset of dietary obesity in sheep.

Pathophysiology of obesity
Article Abstract:
The increasing prevalence of obesity in the US suggests a need for a better understanding of the pathogenesis of obesity. Although earlier studies on the pathophysiology of obesity centered on psychosocial factors, more recent studies have begun to focus on the biology of fat storage and energy metabolism. These studies are particularly concentrated on how peptides secreted by adipocytes can affect energy metabolism. The pathogenesis of obesity thus revolves around the role of food intake as against energy expenditure.
