Early determinants of adult metabolic regulation: effects of infant nutrition on adult lipid and lipoprotein metabolism
Article Abstract:
Understanding the mechanism of infant nutrition may clarify the origins of adult cardiovascular disease. Low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) concentrations and obesity even in childhood are major risk factors for coronary heart disease later in life. The long-term benefits of both breast-feeding and infant formula in the prevention of chronic disease are not clearly understood. However, various nutrition regimens during infancy may direct fat metabolism and fat storage adversely, according to animal models.

Vitamin A and HIV infection: disease progression, mortality, and transmission
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on the role of vitamin A, its healing properties, and its possible use in treating or slowing the advancement of HIV infection. Studies show molecular evidence that HIV-1 viral expression is suppressed by retinoic acid, or tretinoin, a component of vitamin A; however, consistent therapeutic benefits have not been obtained in supplementation trials.
