Habitual physical activity and academic performance
Article Abstract:
Daily physical activity enhances academic performance to some extent and may build good life style habits. Canadian schoolchildren performed better on mathematics scores after having an additional hour of sports instruction per day. In contrast, language and overall intelligence scores did not change, perhaps due to the multiple choice format of the final examination. Despite having spent less time in the class room, children with regular exposure to exercise consistently learned faster per unit of class time.

Physical activity and performance in children
Article Abstract:
Regular physical activity probably has a positive impact on academic and physical performance among Australian schoolchildren. Comparison of a 14-week daily fitness program, a daily physical skills program and the regular thrice-weekly sports routine at school yielded better classroom behavior, overall endurance gains, and reading and arithmetic improvements among the more active students up to two years later. Students lost body fat but did not suffer academically despite a loss of class time.

Measuring nutrition status, physical activity, and fitness, with special emphasis on populations at nutritional risk
Article Abstract:
Middle-class children from Latin America appear to be as physically fit as children of other countries. On the other hand, undernourished children generally mature later, have a smaller stature, and find exercise harder than their well-nourished counterparts. While exercise enhances a healthy middle-class life style, physical activity may interfere with normal growth among children from poor regions.
