The excessive use of mobiles in Africa has made the continent a profitable market for the high-tech gadgets, which were introduced a few years back. Traditional African culture with its emphasis on palaver and oral story telling boosts phone use as a means of social and family contact.

An innovative project uses cell phones to tell the hidden stories of the Toronto city. A project called /murmur/ was started as a way of expressing the local history of Toronto by collecting the real stories from real people and creating an archive for them for anyone to hear.
