Arthur Ashe will be remembered long after he died not only because of his accomplishments in the tennis world, but also because of his involvement in important causes outside sports. He sponsored tennis programs for children, launched the Safe Passage Foundation and served as a spokesman against AIDS.

Eagle Scout James R. Power won the Hornaby Silver Medal in 1991 for organizing the first plastic recycling program in Des Moines, IA. Power set up collection sites for plastic milk bottles and wrote a pamphlet to be used as a guide to setting up similar programs.
