Erythropoietin is a drug used to treat anemia in kidney disease patients. It has been found to effectively stimulate the body into producing greater amounts of red blood cells which is particularly favorable for patients with smaller blood volumes who will undergo elective surgery.

Iron-rich blood a danger?

Research in Finland indicates that a high level of iron in the blood may contribute to the increase of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). LDL is considered a type of bad cholsterol which possibly raise the risks of heart problems.
