Wei is China's greatest champion of democracy in the 20th century. Wei was first arrested on Mar. 29, 1979 on charges of attempting to overthrow the government. He has spend many years in prison. He was rearrested in Beijing on Apr. 1, 1994. Wei has been nominated for the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize.

Zheng Yi and his wife Bei Ming were dissidents in China. The failure of the democracy movement in 1989 prompted them to leave for Hong Kong to seek political asylum. They brought with them documents which illustrates the atrocities committed by the totalitarian regime set up by Mao Zedong.
