Covenant of remembrance
Article Abstract:
The graves of US veterans, who have been buried overseas, are honoured by the foreign citizens on Memorial and Veterans Days. In France the people often put flowers on the graves to commemorate the dead and to remember what the US soldiers did on their behalf. The Overseas Grave Decoration Trust was set up by the American Legion to pay for the maintenance of the graves. At the military cemeteries in the region of Schweinfurt, Germany, a Legionnaire salutes and decorates each grave accompanied by local children and widows of the dead.
