A fight to the finish
Article Abstract:
Grandiose historical claims about science are usually summed up in the words progress or modernisation. Socialists see science's role as creating labour saving technologies and capitalists see science as enhancing people's innovative capabilities. Philosphers have promoted the idea that natural science is a unique form of knowledge with the power to transcend the particularities of time and place. Reintroducing historical considerations into the science curiculum would prevent students from mobilising science.
