The subject of the olfactory response of maggots raises certain major neurobiological problems, particularly the link between the number of odours that can be detected and the larvae's simple systems of detection. A review of four sectors of research on several species is provided, looking especially at the behaviour involve din the olfactory response, the wide range of odours detected and the receptors involved in detection.
